Cupcakes for a Cause

Homes are flooded, family members are found deceased, and towns are destroyed – all due to one cause. This real, life-threatening problem is one that thousands of people within the southeast U.S. are confronting. An issue that you will soon have the opportunity to help alleviate.

Only weeks after Hurricane Helene wreaked 500 miles of havoc and took the lives of 215 people, Hurricane Milton struck. Although Milton’s effects were seemingly smaller than Helene’s, its damage was in the destruction of all recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. The hurricane survivors are dejected, as they are now forced to pick up the pieces once again and cling to their almost nonexistent hope. But there is a way you can help.

In the spirit of giving, a bake sale will be held in the learning commons, during round table, on November 21st. Most importantly, as stated by organizer Vivian Liao, “100 percent of the proceeds are going to hurricane recovery!”

This event is an opportunity to give families that have suffered through the hurricanes something to be thankful for. The items available for purchase will include cupcakes, cookies, rice crispy treats, brownies, and potentially one of Ms. Shu’s special cakes, which are to be priced from around one to five dollars.

Listen to that twinge within your heart and seize this wonderful opportunity to become a beacon of hope in the survivors’ darkest moments. Then savor the treats over deep thoughts of gratitude. After all, you never know when your world, too, could come crumbling down.
